Restful Sunday . . . busy Monday

This is how Saturday ended . . .

And Sunday began AND ended.

It was a very wet night Saturday and the yard was over-saturated, leaving water running and standing throughout our property. Mind you, I'm not going to complain because it's been a month and a half since we've had any real rain. So my attitude is one of gratitude that we are getting this much needed soaking.

After I got home from church, we took the afternoon to visit my niece and her family so the guys could go fishing. That had a great time until they got caught in yet another down-pour. We dealt with it off and on all day. The temperature has dropped down into the 50s, but that's OK too - a break from 90s and humidity.

The day and evening were quiet and restful. Just as Sundays should be.
The only stresser in our day was coming to the conclusion that poor little Chewy may be suffering from seizures. We have a vet appointment this week and have been in touch with him, so he's aware and we know what to do for this poor little love-bug. But the Internet is a wonderful thing and full of "at-your-finger-tips" information. So we did the research.

So if you would be so kind as to keep us in your prayers, especially Chewy, we would really appreciate it.  Thank you.

Goal setting . . .

At the beginning of the year, I found several posts on an annual event and readily signed up.

The event: A Lovely Year of Finishes.

alyof2015
The rules were very simple to follow: choose an unfinished project that was at least a year old; post it to the website at the beginning of the moth for your goal to finish within that month, making sure you linked back and blogged about it; and then post the finished project by the last day of the month and again linking back and blogging.

Simple enough, right? I thought so too. Then life just gets in the way.

My UFO for this month was the Trip-Around-The-World quilt that I started about 20 years ago.

I wanted to schedule it several months ago and inadvertently posted the House quilt (that's still not done). Well, I scheduled this one for this month. I had finally decided that I was just going to tie it and bind it and be done. Thought it was the perfect finish.

A little help from my new friend. . .

And it would have been, had I not set it aside when I sandwiched it. I realized a couple of days ago that I hadn't touched it since it was sandwiched a month ago!!! I pulled it out again this week and in the last couple of days have worked frantically to get it tied. Not just so I could post a finish, but so I could actually have something finished !!!

Quilting is such hard work - this seems like a good spot for a rest . . .

Needless to say, the goal is not going to be met for May. I did get all the blocks tied. I still need to quilt the borders and bind it. So it's going to go back on the schedule for a finish in June.

* * * * *

Friday was a little hectic and nerve-wracking. Chewy took a turn for the worse and was rushed back to the vet. By the time we got to the vet, he was already reacting more like himself. He hasn't gained any weight, but he hasn't lost any either - which is very exciting when you only weigh .8 pounds !!!  but the really good news was that his temperature was back to what's considered normal. Must have been the 80 degree ride in the car to the vet's office !!!!

The vet couldn't explain what happened. Chewy was examined, given a shot of vitamin B and sent home with instructions to keep him warm. So we condensed the size of his crate to fit the heating pad - forcing him to stay on it instead of trying to get away from it.

We also tried some clothing . . .

It's definitely too big, but oh so cute :)

So big in fact, he walked right out of it !!!!

I ended up just covering him with a really soft dish towel and that seem to appease him.

Saturday morning, he was eating on his own again - something he hasn't done all week. Drinking is still an issue, but we're getting fluids into him. He was alert and even playful most of the day. Thanking God for letting us hang on to this precious little creature.

Routine :)

Routine - it's a beautiful thing :)

Until something comes along to change it, disrupt it, or otherwise throw it off. . .

Hi - my name is Chewy (yeah, after that Chewbacca dude).

I arrived on Monday, May 25 to my new home. I'm 8 weeks old. I weigh about one pound !!!!

Unfortunately, when I did arrive at my new home, I was really sick. No one could figure out what was wrong with me.

I ate pretty good Monday night, but Tuesday I only ate a couple of pieces of puppy chow.

I tried to play. . .

but got so, so tired, so very fast . . .

Food - I tried, but just didn't have an appetite . . . yeah, mom tried feeding me with the dropper. I didn't like that very much either.

We went to see the vet. I REALLY didn't like that. You know he pokes you with something REALLY sharp . . . AND not only once but twice !!!!

Mom got instructions and took me home. It was a rough ride, she thought she lost me to Heaven, but I was there just having a really hard time. She got me home and put a heating pad in my crate because I can't keep myself warm enough. My diet is different too. The vet gave me special food, an antibiotic (which I really don't like) and I get to eat Ensure with a half a banana in it !! :) It's yummy !! Mom even tried feeding me baby food - that was really good too.

So I'm spending most of the day in my crate, sleeping, resting and trying to get my energy back . . .

relaxing and soaking up the attention (wink)  :)

(Hmmmm . . . looking a little "Gizmo" here)

Thursday morning, I called to let everyone know I was up !!! Yeah !!!! I'm feeling more like my old self again.

I got to play with Honey Do first thing. . .

I ate all by myself and drank water too :)
Still really tired, so I'll get some more rest, but Mom's really happy.
She's working on a quilt today that's behind schedule. She said something about it being a goal for ALYOFs. So she'll be back tomorrow. She said to tell you . . .

So much talent and blessings

First the blessings . . .

We FINALLY got rain !!!! I'm itching to be in the garden. I really haven't had much opportunity with the trip and then Chewy's emergency. The ground is hard like concrete and just makes the work so difficult to do. Temperatures are forcast to be cooler too, that will help with motivation :)

Even so, there is so much beauty in my gardens. . .

Purple Sage

Japanese Iris

Peonies

I can't remember the name of this one - but I love the pale green and mauve pink of these bell shaped flowers.

This year, the rhodedendrun is the home of a robin. It's the first time one has nested in this bush.

The wind and rain was pretty strong last night, so this over-grown grass in my herb garden got pretty beat up. I'm trying to decide if I want to keep this garden and continue to use it for herbs, or let it go and incorporate my herbs into the vegetable garden . . . decisions !! Those will hold offf until next week. More rain is expected Friday and Saturday. So Monday will be soon enough.

Honey Do has been at it again . . .

I have a new pen - "sewing" themed. Isn't it gorgeous? !!!!

Even though I haven't been blogging much lately (my heartfelt apologies), I have been trying to get some stitching done.

I have managed to catch up Wendy's BOF. I'm working on the fourth block.

They are so cute. It's a free series, so hop on over and get your copies of the patterns. They work up very quickly. And the next block has just been published.

Next on the agenda . . .

A-trip-around-the-world quilt. It's being linked to ALYOFs

This quilt is more than 20 years old. It was my first attempt at a bed size quilt. It's all machine pieced and the top was suppposed to be finished in one weekend - two days - about six or eight hours each. Needless to say, that didn't happen. I ran out of the red tonal print. I spent a fair amount of time looking for it or something comparable that wouldn't look too much out of synch with the rest of the quilt. I couldn't find anything. So I put it away. Until this year. I realized I could finish it by just eliminating the last row. Off I went. The top was finished in an afternoon. Another afternoon found it sandwiched and pin-basted, ready for tying. And that's the goal for the rest of this week.

Time to get back on track.

Louisville Kentucky - Days 4 and 5

Day 4 was spent driving the Bourbon Trail and visiting the different bourbon distilleries. Time for a disclaimer. I typically do not drink, especially hard liquor. I feel that it's none of my business if others choose to. Typically, my husband doesn't either, but he does like the added flavor that's given to foods that are grilled. That was his purpose in doing this escursion. We enjoyed the day of driving and having each other's company exclusively. We had a lot of great conversation. We aren't able to spend a lot of time alone, so it was a really good day for both of us.

I have found all of these facilities to be extremely clean and well maintained. I loved the different architechtures and art-work. The drive between stops was interesting and had its own attractions.

First stop, Bourbon Trace

2. Woodford Reserve

Tour guide - Ken. He encourage and re-iterated several times the need and desire of the company that everyone drink responsibly.

Along the way, we saw numerous horse farms. What gorgeous acreage.

Even what appeared to be a castle. I would like to do some research on this place :)

3. Heaven Hill

There were more distilleries, but after awhile, there really isn't anything more interesting to photograph.

We're not sure why there were fireworks this evening, but we could see them from our room. Added bonus !!!

Day 5 was Saturday. We spent a fair amount of time discussing our departure. Honey Do decided it was time to go home !!! He was ready !!! Not sure I was ready at 5 a.m. !!!! We packed up everything but morning essentials and were on the road by 5:30 a.m. !!! I think we woke the night clerk when we tried to check out :) Coffee wasn't even available yet, but we got some on the road.
Even the ride home was fairly enjoyable. I attempted to stitch. It was time consuming because every time I tried to place a stitch, it seemed we hit another bump in the road - LOL

We were graced with a beautiful sunrise !!!

Arrival at home - 11 a.m. !!! The pups were very happy to see us. Neither one of us was able to rest much once we arrived. We spent time with "Pops" and almost immediately I set about putting my house to rights - not that it was in too bad a shape.

It's nice to go, visit, travel, recharge, but there is nothing like being at home. I'm so very blessed to have a home a cherish, treasure, and enjoy being. I'm also grateful to be back to my mostly normal routines. Time to go and start the laundry :)
