Weekend Recap

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Computer issues continue, so I'm going to start planning my weekends as family time and catching up on projects and things that didn't get done all week. Those should be minimal with all my efforts to stay home as much as possible. To that end, I would only be posting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There's not enough going on in my world to post more often than that.

There is less than a month left for school for my son. About five or six weeks until Vacation Bible School. I'm making slow progress on that front. Having a very difficult time coming up with crafts for grades one through three.

Here's how my weekend progressed:

Friday began with chores. I had plenty of supplies for meals so I didn't need to go shopping, although I have stopped for fresh produce.

The weekend began with a movie marathon that only last Friday, LOL.

I've been collecting over the last week and just didn't take time to watch. I'll work on them again Monday :)

In between movies, I sorted through boxes in the guest room and worked on the quilt. I got in over an hour of sewing time on the machine.

I broke my stitching time up between early morning and evening and got in more than an hour there too.

Saturday got an early start, around 7 a.m. Don't you just love when you can sleep in and you can't? I'm a morning person, love getting up early, but once in a while I'd like to sleep past 7 !!!

Breakfast and morning chores done, I worked on the quilt - most of the day. I finally moved on to sides three and four, for a total of three hours sewing machine time !!! In between working on the quilt I accomplished some other goals. It's a gorgeous day here.

It's a perfect day to get some gardening done. I've been collecting shredded paper from Mom and my own. It's supposed to make a good mulch. I didn't have enough for the whole garden, but I have more shredding to do and it will get there eventually.

While in the garden I had to get these gorgeous red roses, this picture doesn't do them justice as they are a really dark red and resemble red velvet. Dark and rich.

Spring has finally sprung indoors, as well. The Easter decorations are all packed up and put away for another year.

With all my energy expended on the quilt, I progressed on nothing else for the rest of the day.

Sunday was a different story. After church, lunch, pups, I took some time to work out the details for the lace cabins. My goal for this week was to have them sandwiched and to quilt one block each day. This was a serious case of cart before horse !! Originally I was going to follow the assembly instructions but it only finishes to a 52 x 52 inch (?-size). I want something to fit my bed = 60 x 80 inches !! This led me to change the layout.

Once I got the layout, I could do the math so I can get my sashing, borders and backing fabrics because I don't have large enough pieces in my stash. I pulled my "block rows" fabric from the leftovers from this project and my stash, then started cutting. I wasn't able to get to the sewing. The sewing challenge is officially done, but I still want to find sewing time at least six days of the week.

We cheated for dinner and got take out, but I made a simple dessert. One of my favorite genres on television is cooking shows on PBS Create. And this was one of the recipes this weekend.

I modified it a bit for portion and visual presentation. Base is pre-made pound cake topped with a pudding/cool whip blend and fresh berries. I can see this with all kinds of other fruits to change it up.

Ok, on to the goals:

1. Redwork
- quilt - DONE
- binding - pinned, hand sewing begun

2. Sheep
- stitch on block - DONE, another one begun

3. Easter
- assemble - not yet

4. Lace Cabins
- sandwich - not yet
- quilt - not yet
layout planned, math done, fabric for block rows chose and cut.

Goals for this week will be in a separate post.

Hump Day Slump

Wednesday began in a bit of a slump. I had an appointment first thing and knew that I'd be gone most of the morning. Makes for a rough start because it puts everything behind.

I got home by 11, took the dogs out for a bit. The weather is perfect - sunshine, breezy, low 70s - absolutely perfect. I spent about 30 minutes weeding, got my sewing time in on the quilt and worked on another sheep block. I only have three left to do and then another quilt to assemble.

After Wednesday's slump and a change in plans for Thursday (BF and I were supposed to visit), I decided I wasn't going to feel unsatisfied with my day. I met my daily goals on Wednesday but felt empty and unfulfilled. To that end, I changed my approach to the day and had laundry started before Honey Do pulled out of the driveway for work and dinner dishes were put away. Yes, I leave them in the drainer to dry :)

I love Debbie Macomber and am rewatching Cedar Cove on Netflix. The best thing about watching something again is you can mostly listen while you stitch.

Daily goal: 30 mins - Done

Work continues on the Redwoark. I've moved from sashing to the borders. One long side done.

Daily goal:  30 mins sewing - Done

I took some time before it got to warm to bake some muffins. I don't bake much these days in an effort to eat healthier, but I found this recipe on a cereal box. Along with bran flakes, there's bananas and walnuts.

A got a phone call on Wednesday from an organization seeking donations of clothing and household goods. What a wonderful excuse to clean out closets and such. I'm long overdue and have been putting the project off. Now's a good time before it gets back into the 80s and 90s to work in the spare bedroom. I'm expecting a visit in August and want to reorganize an redecorate, maybe even get the painting done that I planned a year ago and never got to.

Thursday was another perfect day. I have found that I can get my laundry washed, line-dried and put away before dinner if I start early enough. Saves on the gas bill and gets the pups and myself outside a bit more and more often. I put up a second line to make the process more efficient.

While I was out with the second load of laundry,

we had a visitor :)

The purple flowers - spider wort - are transplants from my garden last year.

So I'm going to take the weekend to play catch up at home and get Honey Do ready for his trip next week. See you on Monday :)

CELEBRATING

I'm celebrating the beginning of my week. I have my house back to myself again.
I love my husband and son, but I love my time to myself too :)

I kept up on chores, but you know for every one done, two more crop up. I'll do them each day as time and energy permit.

I/we, Rocky and I, started our day with a walk. Even though I was up at 6, we really can't do much until after 8, when Newton leaves for school.  I have an app on my phone that records steps and activity. What was a 30 minute walk a month ago is now only 17 !!! We are going to have to extend it to get the time in. This is a new change starting today - we are going to walk first thing in the morning and again in the evening, maybe around 7.

Another change I've made is to stop drinking everything except water after dinner. I had to go out, so I'm picking up a new scale to help keep track of my progress. I just feel the need to get healthier.

I spent most of the day feeling like I was chasing my tail. . . laundry, errands, phone calls. It was 2 p.m. before I got my sewing time in. I spent my 30 minutes quilting redwork. I felt I made good progress in that time. So much so, that I kept coming back to it. I probably ended up with about 2 hours total sewing time.

One goal has been accomplished . . .

I finished the sheep block.

Monday

Memorial Day

I hope everyone had a good weekend and took the time to remember those we have lost over our life times.

Rocky decided 6 a.m. was a good time to get up for the day. We surveyed the backyard after about six hours of off and on rain, heavy rains for the most part. There's water standing everywhere. Mosquitoes are biting even this early.

Laundry, breakfast and lunch are done. Dinner decided. I set about working on the redwork quilt. I managed sandwiching and pinning everything in place. It's a long slow process, but looking forward excitedly to the finished project.

It was a very relaxing day with no pressure to do anything, go anywhere or even cook. We did leftover grill because it was there for dinner.

What a difference a day and rain makes in the garden.

The pink roses that were budding on Sunday were blooming on Monday :)

Sunshine Saturday

We had sunshine when we rose for the day !! It did rain some during the night, but I slept through it.

After a quick walk through the back yard, I made breakfast

in my new copper pan.

My mother's day gift from my mom.

After breakfast, Honey Do and I went plant shopping for the vegetable garden. My rule of thumb has always been to have my gardens planted by Memorial Day weekend.

By noon I had 3 1/2 rows planted while the dogs ran the yard and the rest of the garden gridden.

A quick walk through my flower beds made me smile. Between temperatures and rain the plants are thriving and blooming, as well as all the weeds.

Lunch was tasty - open faced philly chicken with a drizzle of ranch dressing.

After lunch, I finished the BOM

Goal accomplished. I also received some squishy mail.

Well, maybe not quite so squishy. At least it was fun. I won last month's Growing Up prize and it came in the mail this week. I had forgotten all about it. Thank you, Alida :)

Just before dinner, I went back outside with the poochies. While Honey Do grilled dinner,

I finished my planting. All the plans we purchased were in the ground the same day !! There's rain forecast for Sunday, otherwise I probably wouldn't have rushed. It feels really good to have it done. Next week, I'll start re-weeding the flower beds. I have discarded shasta daisies coming.

Tilda is also done. Another goal accomplished.

All around a very productive and creativity day.
