Sort of

As a stay at home parent, I'm expected (willingly) to cook, clean, do laundry and take care of everyone's needs. I'm, by no means, the best housekeeper or a gourmet chef, but my family is not complaining -at least not too loudly :)

A couple of Sundays ago I discovered a mission effort at my church and was thrilled to be able to participate. It's sewing up pillowcase skirts and dresses that will then be delivered to the Sudan. I've managed to get the first five finished and have agreed to do another ten. They are very easy and relatively quick to do. And it's straight sewing . . . nothing fancy but I absolutely love the end result and the fact that they are helping someone else. I think I have finally found (or it found me) a mission project to contribute at least my some of my skills.

I was told that this would be an on-going mission, so I'm looking forward to continuing my participation on a regular basis.

In between sewing the skirts, I have a deadline project. My wool BOM.

I have finally begun working on this project. The class is a week from Thursday and it should be completed prior to arriving. I've been busy nursing a pup and sewing on the skirts, not to mention the everyday responsibilities around home, so it hasn't gotten much attention. Now I'm under the pressure of the deadline.

I'm stitching on black, so transferring the pattern is a bit messy and unsightly, but you get the idea. It will clean up once I'm finished stitching. To preserve the drawing, I covered it in plastic wrap so the chalk doesn't rub away completely from all the handling.

I made some progress on it. In the process, learned a new stitch . . . raised chain stitch (it's linked to the YouTube tutorial if you are interested). It's gorgeous and I love it.

I had an unexpected errand to run Monday morning, so once it was finished I rewarded myself to a trip to one of my favorite thrift stores (it's in the same neighborhood). I was rewarded for sacrificing 30 minutes of my home time.

I found two beautiful frames. I don't have the best of luck finding them, so when I do, I must purchase them.

And linens !!!! I found a set of six that had been reduced to $1.75 !!!!!! How could I possibly say no? Look at that gorgeous border. Now to find the perfect project for them . . .

I also found this pair of battenburg lace. The centers are even weave and if I can find the perfect little counted cross stitch they will be the perfect match.
Thanks for stopping by,

Wishing you a day filled with creativity.

What a wonderful thing to do, hon, bless you for making those skirts and dresses. I've never worked with wool - I'm allergic - your raised chain stitch intrigues me. I'm drooling over your thrift finds - I love finding treasures too!

Fabulous finds, Edi! The linen is great for crazy quilting. Just sayin'. =) Thanks for the link to that stitch. It's one I haven't seen before and which I must use right away!
